It was inevitable.

Yeah, the past four years or so I've spent some time probing Tolkien's other writings beyond LOTR, Hobbit, and the Silmarillion. While at Gordon-Conwell I took a class called "Tolkien's Apocalyptic Imagination". It was a blast! Definitely in the Top 10 of my seminary experience.

Have you read "On Fairie Stories" by Tolkien? Great read. It's a great defense of fantastic literature.

We might be going to Egypt and Jordan next January. In fact I was supposed to go this past January, but it was postponed. Another faculty member at New England Bible College and I will be co-leading the trip.Josh O.https://www.blogger.com/profile/14124016033204476005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10405872.post-1138132068006887462006-01-24T14:47:00.000-05:002006-01-24T14:47:00.000-05:00For a latecomer, you are very well informed about ...For a latecomer, you are very well informed about Tolkien! I read the books when I was 14-15, hiding them under my bed (they were banned material, containing wichcraft, you know) and was hooked from that moment. When the movies came out, Dad decided to read the books again, out loud to anyone who wanted to listen. Your quote reminded me, b/c it was at one of the parts where he would always break down (I never let on that I cried too).
Thanks for the reminder--it is good to be part of the drama of redemption. Being in Israel made this really clear to me (an "aha" moment--looking at a mud brick gate from the time of Abraham and realizing that he was as real standing on that land 4,000 years ago as I was at that moment!).Nate and Aimeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02957269888775067605noreply@blogger.com
